Ski Vacation At Whistler Resort

Whistler ski resort often gets voted as one of the best ski resorts not just in North America but in the world year after year. The popular Ski Magazine once quoted a fan of Whistler as saying, “If you can’t have a great skiing holiday at Whistler, then find another sport!”

The Whistler ski resort is also famous not only for its fabulous ski trails and spectacular scenery, it is also famous for its family friendly services and activities. It has fabulous activities for kids such as adventure zones, magic-carpets, play-fort just to mention a few.

As mentioned in the beginning of this article, Whistler ski resort is a family oriented vacation resort. There are very well organized programs for the children. Whistler Kids is one of the largest children skiing and snow boarding programs you can find in any ski resorts.

The Magic Carpets kids program make learning skiing easy for the young beginners. At the Adventure Camps, your kids get to stay with the same group of children learner and instructor all week long. The Whistler ski resorts even have a licensed childcare service. As for your teenagers, they can join a week-long “Ride Tribe”.

The Big Easy Terrain Garden in the resort is a gentler terrain park meant for kids skiing or snowboarding. Then there are Adventure and Play Zones too. Blackcomb Mountain has a Children’s Adventure Park, with runs through the forest and there is even a ski-through castle. For night skiing, families can ride the Magic Chair ski lift use the beginners’ slope or have fun on a number of added features such as rails and boxes.

With all these vacation goodies, is it any wonder why The Whistler Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski resorts in the world?

(Real estate whistler bc) Getting into your first Tejon Ranch home….

Getting into your first Tejon Ranch home is a large step, making it important that you understand what you are getting into.

If you have a home, you want to make sure that the flow of money coming and leaving is to your advantage.

Beat the Rush to World Class Cross Country Skiing and Ski Touring Terrain Near Whistler, BC.

A few miles off the heavily traveled Highway 99, as the legions head to the populous slopes of the world famous Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort, a brave few with a sense of adventure and a passion for self propelled recreation in an authentic, natural setting explore the accessible yet remote wilderness of the Callaghan Valley.

Cross country skiers

There are Miles, or kilometres, of classic track set cross country ski trails track throughout the Callaghan Valley area. There are endless skiing opportunities here for cross country skiers of all abilities. The rolling terrain is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers, while advanced skiers will find challenges galore with the incredible variety of terrain. This is some of the best cross country skiing in Canada

Popular trips for Nordic skiers include skiing out to the base of a stunning glacier or along the shores of a frozen alpine lake. In the spring, skate skiing is also an option if the weather co-operates.

While the best cross country skiers in the world have to wait until 2010 in order to experience the Nordic skiing here, those seeking a great workout close to Whistler can experience it all winter long for the next few years.

Of course, shoe shoeing is also a popular option in this region.

Backcountry skiing ? Telemark and Alpine touring

The Callaghan Valley, with its expansive terrain and high vertical drops, is also a prime backcountry ski touring destination. Whether you use alpine touring or telemark skiing gear, an hour or two of gentle climbing can lead to those stellar, smooth runs through gentle powder that only the few who know the magic pull of ski touring ever have the chance to appreciate. There are numerous popular runs and treks based out of the Callaghan Country Lodge that can give some of the best days or partial days of ski touring available on our planet, whether you are looking for steep or gentle runs. While many opt for self guided travel in the Valley, there are also guides available to ensure that everyone gets the best out of their time here.

The Olympics

When Vancouver, BC hosts the Winter Olympic Games in 2010, all of the Nordic events ? Nordic (cross country skiing), Biathlon, and ski jumping will be held in the Callaghan Valley. New facilities are currently being constructed in the Madeley Creek Basin. Once the facilities are complete, this will be the premier location for cross country skiing in Canada. The Nordic centre will be located approximately 8 km from Highway 99 (22 km from Whistler Village), and about 14 km from The Callaghan Backcountry Lodge, a Remote Wilderness Lodge that allows visitors to the Callaghan Valley to stay in this pristine Valley while they ski.

The Whistler Nordic Centre project includes the construction of access road upgrades and parking areas, and three permanent stadium areas for Cross Country, Biathlon, and Ski Jumping, each with a spectator capacity of 12,000 (achieved through the provision of temporary seats and standing areas) In addition, 50 km to 100 km of new trails, 90 M and 120 M ski jumps and a Biathlon facility will be built. Various temporary and permanent facilities including a Nordic day lodge, sport operation buildings, and maintenance facility will also be constructed.

Construction of the Nordic Centre is should be completed by June, 2007 and will cost over $100 million.

The eventual goal of the Whistler Nordic Centre plan for the Callaghan Valley is to create an accessible, world-class destination for all of the Nordic sports, and to maximize year-round use of compatible outdoor recreational and sporting activities, such as mountain biking and walking trails during the summer? .. To that end, there is already a number of great summer activities here, including hiking, hele-hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and photography. Depending upon the year, the alpine skiing season can last well into the spring on the glaciers and mountain peaks. Callaghan Valley is also situated cloe to the “Outdoor Recreation capital of Canada” - Squamish BC.

Callaghan Country Lodge

A longtime anchor for this area is the Callaghan Country Lodge, a deluxe Mountain Lodge that boosts comfort and hospitality to the adventurous who make it to this remote region far enough away from roads, traffic, and power lines to make one really feel they are ?away from it all?. The high alpine lodge nestled in a grove of Yellow Cedars gives the feel of being in Whistler before Whistler existed.

Callaghan Lodge is a finely crafted 5,000 square foot, 3 story Whistler ski lodge boasting exceptional mountain views from all of its large windows.

This mountain lodge features a large and relaxing lounge area where over-stuffed couches and armchairs are comfortably adjacent to a beautiful stone fireplace.

The mountain lodge currently offers accommodation for sixteen in eight private rooms, however with 3 pull-out couches throughout the facility, up to 22 people can be accommodated quite comfortably. It is a a fantastic Whistler ski lodge in the true Whistler backcountry.

Callaghan Country?s vision is to become the most renowned and respected mountain adventure wilderness resort in the world.

(Whistler canada real estate) Before you become involved with anyone t….

Before you become involved with anyone that will involve your money, you need to make sure that they are going to offer you the best.

One option to consider is a home equity loan.

High Risk Home Mortgage Lenders Online - How To Get A Loan With Bad Credit And No Money Down
Before buying a home, many individuals delay until they have achieved the ideal situation. This usually consists of perfect credit, down payment, and adequate money to pay closing fees. This approach will likely help homebuyers secure a low rate mortgage with great terms. However, postponing the home buying process may not be the best choice …

If you are familiar with real estate, you are also probably familiar with the roles that are linked to the properties that you are on.

Bad Credit Mortgage Loan: Obtain Loan in Spite of Bad Credit
In the past few years, if you had any bad credit report, you would have forgot to get a mortgage loan again. Even if you had applied and the mortgage lenders would have accepted the loan, the interest rate might have been too high. But now, the situation has changed a lot. There are many …

Marketing and Maintaining Your Whistler Properties: Owner Assisted Direct-Rentals

You?ve been to Whistler for three incredible ski vacations. You?ve browsed real estate websites and chatted with agents. You?ve toured multiple condos, chalets and townhouses. Finally, you?ve found your dream Whistler vacation home and you?ve written a big, fat cheque.

But wait ? how exactly will you pay for this dream?

Breathe deeply into a paper bag and try not to fret. Every year, hundred of owners rent out their properties with the help of in-resort contacts and small property management companies. In our third and final article about Whistler property management techniques, we?ll assess how owners get help from small rental management companies and share the workload ? without sacrificing too much of their rental revenue.

How to Share the Workload to Rent and Maintain Your Whistler Property

Luckily, there are Whistler companies who realize owners might want to handle their own marketing and calendar management, but need a way to manage logistics like cleaning and unique touches like welcome baskets. But they also realize owners might want to play a small part in the business venture, and don?t want to relinquish all control to a full-blown property management company. With owner-assisted rentals, Whistler property owners obtain the reservations and collect payment, and their concierge service or small rental management company handles the rest.

Most often, companies like Whistler Front Desk, who cater to owner-direct rentals, will let you pick a bundle of services, for a commissioned price. Together, you can come up with an arrangement that works, and only forfeit about 20% of your rental income. A sample of these services includes:

  • Cleaning
  • Personal meet and greet
  • Key pick up and drop off
  • Welcome baskets
  • Information booklets
  • Minor maintenance
  • Guest services
  • Laundry of dirty linens
  • Arrangement for transfers, grocery delivery and baby equipment
  • 24 hour in-resort contact

The Pros of Owner-Assisted Direct Rentals in Whistler

Maintain control: Because owner assisted rentals don?t replace the owner in the areas of advertising or payment collection, the owner is still in full control of their Whistler property. Owners won?t be paying for services they aren?t using ? without reservations, there?s nothing to clean!

Proximity: Owner assisted rentals allow Whistler property owners from outside the country, or even the immediate area, to exert control without signing their life away with a rental management company. They can easily combine their efforts on websites like AlluraDirect.com or Vacation Rentals by Owner with the services offered by businesses like Whistler Front Desk.

The Cons of Owner-Assisted Direct Rentals in Whistler

Unnecessary services: It might be tempting to opt-in for services Whistler owners don?t actually need when renting owner-direct. Meet and greet and/or check-in services aren?t absolutely necessary for guests ? many owners just use a coded lock or a lockbox for keys. Guests can easily and self-sufficiently access properties without the presence of an owner, so why pay for the service? Mints on pillows and complimentary bottles of wine are nice touches, but are they really important in the overall scheme of renting out your property?

Money, money and more money: While small rental management companies and concierge services don?t take a commission as hefty as other companies, it is still a cut into the rental revenue. This is something all Whistler owners of vacation properties should consider. Money might bring you ease and peace of mind, but stall the anticipated rise in your bank account.

Whistler Vacation Rentals and You: A Fun and Exciting Balancing Act

As with many endeavors, deciding how to handle the renting of your Whistler vacation property is often an overwhelming task. Owner-assisted rentals exist as the halfway point between going at it alone, or

Pet Friendly in Whistler BC - Salivate Over These Tips for a Smooth Vacation

For most owners, your pet is like a member of the family.? Or in some cases, the pet allows you to be a member of their family (depending on who’s really in charge).? I have a sneaking suspicion that’s how my 2 year old mutt perceives the world.? After all I’m the one catering to her needs, filling her bowl every morning and evening, picking up after her, and dragging her bed from room to room of my apartment when she has nowhere comfortable to lie.? (Perhaps ’slave’ is a more apt word).

Either way, your pet is an integral part of your life.? So it’s only natural to want to bring them along when you pack your bags, lock your doors, and bid your home goodbye.? I’m talking about vacation: that wonderful time when work is left in your rearview mirror and instead replaced with a gloriously open schedule stretching out ahead.? And at your side, and probably slobbering on your shoulder, is your furry companion.

Your destination: Whistler, British Columbia, one of the top resort destinations in the world.? Whether you’re arriving in the summer or winter, a myriad of activities await:? golfing, mountain biking, bungee jumping, dancing, drinking, snowboarding, the list goes on.? And of course, you can’t forget frequent walks with your pet around pedestrian-friendly Whistler Village and surrounding trails.? Your pet will no doubt be the envy of their block buddies back home.

But wait…before loading up your bags, hitching your pet and heading up Whistler mountain, here are a few nuggets of wisdom that will prepare both you and your pet for the destination.?

**************************************************************

Find pet-friendly Whistler lodging. With AlluraDirect’s easy to use vacation rentals search engine, you can view 520+ top-located vacation rental options and book directly with the owner. Just make sure you select “Pets Allowed” in the Amenities section of the Advanced Search Criteria. Plus, you can compare detailed vacation rental photos, rates, features, locations & more. Unlike many hotels, you can see the actual rental you will stay in, before you instantly book it online.

On extended road trips, stop for some exercise.? Everyone needs the chance to stretch their legs once and a while (and perhaps a quick stop in a gas station’s restroom).? Give your pet the chance to uncurl and run loose for at least a half hour after particularly long stretches.? A nice game of fetch or a jog around the rest stop are a few examples.? But be careful about letting our pet run loose, as the unfamiliar environment may hide some nasty surprises (decaying chicken bones are found in the oddest of places).

Take your pet’s familiar items with you.? When venturing into the unknown, there’s little that’s more comforting for a pet than being able to rest in their own bed or blanket. Your pet will feel safer and more at ease.? As most owners will tell you, your pet will light up at the sight of their stuff.? Taking along a few favorite toys will also give your pet something to play with while you’re deciding your itinerary for the day.

Never leave a dog alone in your Whistler lodging for an extended period.?? Even dogs that are well behaved and rarely chew or maim anything in your house, can behave differently when they’re in a strange place.? (There’s nothing worse than coming home with shreds of furniture lying around).? If you must leave you dog alone for a while, consider employing the services of The Nanny Network or Tailspin Dog Care services.

Keep the barking to a minimum.? Much like parents who can magically tune out their own child’s ear shattering wail, dog owners exhibit the same phenomenon if they have a particularly talkative pet.? Let other guests enjoy their vacation in peace and remember to tone down the barking.? Also, it’s a good idea to keep your pet on leash while entering & exiting your Whistler lodging and to avoid your pet tackling other guests.? Even people who don’t mind animals can become spooked if there’s suddenly a slobbering tongue in their face.

Respect the pet policy. If your Whistler lodging allows pets, they still may not take kindly to dirty paws on the furniture.? Thankfully, AlluraDirect.com’s fast-friendly vacation rentals search engine allows you to read all the property policies before you make your reservation and avoid the hassle of trying to guess.? It’s important to sort this out before you book your stay - so you can simply find another property whose pet policy matches your own style.

Take responsibility for any damages caused by your pet. Accidents happen even with the most well-behaved pet.? If your pet has an unfortunate stomach upset and leaves “deposits” on the nice carpet of your Whistler lodging, or decides to shred some towels, it’s a good idea to own up and work out a fair cleaning agreement.? You’ll be promoting responsible pet ownership and paving the way for others to allow pets in their properties.

Keep the leash handy. Though Whistler is a dog-loving community, most parks and trails are on-leash only.? Thankfully, dogs are not barred from the Village, and you can proudly have your pet by your side as you stroll through the cobble stoned boulevards. As well, there are several picturesque trails for dog walking. (Lost Lake is a great place to start in the summer).?

Be prepared for emergencies. It’s a good idea to locate the Emergency Veterinary Clinics in Whistler before you get there, or early upon your arrival.? That way, in the event of an accident or sickness, you’ll know exactly where to take your pet for immediate care and attention.

So that’s it!? With these easy reminders, you’re Whistler vacation will be a trip you won’t soon forget.

Heli Skiing In (whistler investment property) Whistler BC - The Most Satisfying Addiction You’ll Ever Have

Heli Skiing In Whistler BC - The Most Satisfying Addiction You’ll Ever Have

Warning: the following habit can be dangerous to your health, your family life, and your bank account. It can lead to prolonged periods of dissatisfaction with regular day-to-day existence, where the skies are bland shades of grey and everyone you meet is destined to bore you with details of the mundane. It will inflict itself heavily on your bank account, and will severely test your ability to pay-off credit card debt.

Should this habit be continually indulged, family life will succumb to its siren song and you will find your significant other standing icily at the doorstep, child at his or her side, a tiny hand intertwined and asking ?Where is daddy (or mommy) going?? And your significant other will stifle a tear, shake their head, and answer as if spitting the name of an enthralling mistress, ?Heli skiing.?

Yes, helicopter skiing and snowboarding is an extremely addictive sport, and should not be attempted under any circumstances. Unless, of course, you yearn for the mind-altering, neuron-firing experience of surfing untouched powder as if granted entrance to the slopes of ancient Mount Olympus and the realm of the Gods themselves. Should you decide to partake in the sport (strictly for the purposes of avoiding it in the future) consider Heli Skiing in Whistler BC as your best choice.

Gateway To The Gods - The Whistler Heli Skiing Area

Minutes from North America?s #1 ski resort lies endless high-alpine terrain and scenery guaranteed so induce belief in a higher power. The heli-ski area is composed of several zones with an approximate area of 80km by 50km. The enormous variety of slopes and ski runs is enough to satisfy skiers and boarders of all levels (though ?winter virgins? need not apply). Carving down wide open glaciers? Whispering through sun-dazzled tree glades? Post heli-ski adventure, it?s no wonder the morning traffic commute loses its rosy appeal.

Look In the Mirror ? Are You Good Enough To Attempt Whistler Heli Skiing?

Believe it or not, Whistler heli skiing doesn?t mean you are forced to jump out of a thundering helicopter directly onto the slopes, before proceeding to ?shred the pow? while cracking a can of Mountain Dew. (The helicopter actually lands). You do however, have to be in moderate physical shape and exhibit a positive mental attitude.

Ask yourself: do you thrive on powder and love a good challenge on an average ski day? Can you ski or snowboard down a run quickly, without falling (too many times) and have little difficulty? Do you have good physical strength, are able to recover quickly, and have no major injuries? If you answered ?yes? to all of these, chances are you?re a heli-skiing addict in the making.

How To Crush Egos And Choose Your Team

On heli-ski trips, you spend all day with the same people. This can be a wonderful opportunity for bonding and sharing a powerful experience with others. Or it can mean the character traits of your friend you find most annoying are multiplied to the point of murderous fantasies playing out in your head. Necessity dictates you must be brutally selective.

Ski or snowboard with your friends at a regular resort. Did everyone enjoy themselves? Was their anyone who struggled on groomed intermediate slopes? (No doubt they would struggle in high-alpine powder and hold your group behind). Look for interesting and fun-loving people that are easy going and aren?t quick to anger. Chat with your friends about what they want on the trip: massive vertical footage, vast-open glaciers, a relaxing cruise through the trees? Finally, assemble your group.

Etiquette On The Journey And The Slopes

Whistler Heli skiing is a life altering experience. It?s possible you may wish to contemplate this on the bus, the helicopter, on the slopes and in the lodge. But that makes for boring company for everyone else. Instead, be friendly and strike up genuine conversations with everyone in the group, especially if you?re alone in the group. (Remember: a stranger is a friend you just haven?t met).

Pay attention when the heli-skiing operators, pilots and guides bestow their valuable wisdom. (It?s quite possible the information may save your life). Help others carry their skis and snowboards, pick up dropped equipment when someone falls, and rotate who goes first on each run. Keep pace with the group, and even if you?re itching to blast down the slopes, exercise patience.

Treat Yourself To Fresh Powder ? The Zen Of Whistler Heli Skiing

While your guide will carefully evaluate the safest areas to ski and snowboard, keep in mind that avalanches do occur and are often beyond prediction and control. Always listen to your guides on the slopes. But that doesn?t mean you can?t forge some fresh tracks on your own.

Stay out of the flats, as you might find it difficult to maintain speed in deep powder. Look for big areas of white when navigating through the trees, as it?s deceptively easy to focus on what to avoid?and end up heading straight for it. Take advantage of natural features like lips, berms, banks, chutes, and bowls. Lastly, always remain in contact with your group and guide.

The Helicopter ? Companion, Lover, Friend.

Loud, agile, and your only means of getting back home, your Whistler helicopter is a machine to be treated with respect. Never ski or snowboard up to it. Stop a safe distance away and remove your gear prior to approaching the helicopter, and always from a lower angle. (Wouldn?t want an unexpected haircut?or worse). Avoid walking around the rear of the main cabin door as the helicopter can move unexpectedly.

Knocking your boots on the skids or on the side of the helicopter is a great way to shake off the snow, but it will attract the heated ire of the pilot. (Likewise, avoid using the instrument rods protruding from the helicopter?s nose to melt your gloves). Be gentle opening the helicopter door, as they?re designed to be lightweight. Lastly, avoid kicking the outside frame as you climb in by lifting your lower foot high, then quickly buckle yourself in your seat.

Final Suggestions For A Memorable Lifelong Addiction

Should you choose to continue on this Whistler Heli Skiing folly, you should come to terms with the fact that a simple fall or collision could result in serious injury. If you?re lost or stranded somewhere, you could face hypothermia, and even death. Even more unfortunate, your bank account will experience sustained depletion, your social life will stumble, and your significant other will starve for attention (unless, of course, you bring them along).

However the mind-expanding nature of the Whistler heli skiing experience cannot be denied. Who can say they have surfed the shoulders of some of nature?s mightiest mountains, gazing down upon the surface of clouds as surely as the ancient Greek gods did two millennia ago? Mundane life may suffer, but it is assured you will never look at the world in quite the same way.

Consider yourself warned.

A Day In Whistler

The snow is falling furiously outside my window when I am woken by telephone ringing at 0710. I remember that I asked to be called early if it was snowing, and Stefan, my hunky Austrian instructor is at the other end of the line. ?I?ll see you at the bottom of the Creekside gondola in 20 minutes?, he says. ?Can you really make it that quickly??. He doesn?t realize that I am staying at one of Holiday Whistler?s ski-in, ski-out homes in Taluswood, a spectacular development of ski lodge homes on the lower slopes of Whistler Mountain. All I have to do is pull my ski clothes on, ease into my boots, grab my skis and poles, press the button that opens the garage door and walk the 10 yards to the ski-out trail. A minute later I am at the bottom of the gondola. In fact ? and to his astonishment ? I am here before Stefan. It is only 7.24. We have agreed to meet early to take advantage of the conditions. We have our ?Fresh Tracks? tickets, which entitle us to catch the first lift up and breakfast at the Roundhouse. Whistler skiers know that when the snow is falling heavily in the Village it is really falling at the top ? after all, it?s over a vertical mile higher ? and that if they want to find some untracked snow without a hour?s hike they?d better be first up the mountain, which means ?Fresh Tracks?.

Stefan has moved to Whistler from Kitzbuhel. He has transferred from the legendary Rote Teufel ? the Red Devils of the Kitzbuhel Skischool ? to the equally legendary Whistler-Blackcomb Ski School. After we have eaten our fill at the Roundhouse (which is not round at all, but apparently it once was) the all clear is sounded and we rush out onto the slopes. It is still snowing like hell, but following Stefan makes this somewhat easier: he knows every mogul on the mountain and his smooth rhythms through the powder, which he can effortlessly modulate to stay just ahead of me, are almost as good a guide as bright sunshine and some nearby trees for definition. Needless to say, my thighs are burning and my goggles (c. 1991) are fogged up from the sweat of my brow. Naturally, Stefan?s Oakley goggles (c. 2005) are crystal clear, since this is not even a mild workout for him.

We are among the first onto the Peak Chair, whence originate some of Whistler?s best and least know powder runs. Our first run is Christmas Trees, which starts parallel to the Peak Chair but then angles off to the left down a ridge of trees more or less parallel to Big Red. There are many routes through these trees but you have to know them as there are also many traps for the unwary. Luckily Stefan can ski his way through these trees blindfold. We do this run a couple of times and try some of the double black diamond runs off the Harmony Ridge ? so much snow has fallen that even though I fall down after every jump my landing is soft as, well as Whistler powder.

After a full day with Stefan I ski back to my front door ? literally ? peel off my clothes and sink into the hot tub, which is nestled in the woods at the back of the townhome. I have taken the precaution of booking a masseuse; after the powerful jets have done their work she starts hers An hour later her powerful fingers have done the trick and I am feeling immensely relaxed and deeply somnolent. I worry ? well I worry a little - about whether a stiff cocktail will knock me out or revive me for the evening?s activities, but as the ice-cold Martini is absorbed into my blood stream I find myself quite ready for an evening?s dining at one of Whistler?s legendary restaurants. Another great day in Whistler.

The best season for visiting Whistler

Whistler is internationally renowned as a year-round resort, with recreational activities for all the family available at any time of year. So if you are planning to come to
Whistler, what is the best time of year?

Let’s take this question step by step. If you are coming for the skiing on Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, you can really only choose sometime between November and April. Although skiing is available up until July, it is not for the serious skier, due to the combination of marginal snow cover and limited terrain availability. Within this time, don’t bother with November, when the risk of little or no snow will be considerable. So your choice is effectively between the months from December to April. What are the main pros and cons of each month?

December is a curate’s egg. The early part will find empty slopes, great deals on lodging and in the restaurants, but a bit of a gamble with respect to the snow. If the snow gods are smiling on you, this will be an excellent time to visit. If not, bring your oldest skis and set aside some time for treatments in some of Whistler’s legendary spas. Later in the month, and especially over Christmas and New Year, you will pay the highest prices of the season, have to fight for a table in any of the most sought-after restaurants and stand in some very long queues on the Harmony Chair. However you will experience the adrenalin which goes with the height of the season in Whistler: the buzzing atmosphere, the parades, the firework displays etc. If you can afford it, this is a wonderful time to come.

January frequently offers the heaviest snowfalls of the year (in 2006 January was the snowiest month since record-keeping began). It also offers great prices on accommodation (you can safely wait to the last minute to look for deals), and no lift lines, except perhaps on weekend powder days, when the cognoscenti will queue up early to leave their mark on the mountain. On the other hand it can occasionally be extremely chilly, and it tends to get dark very early. If you are a true enthusiast, January may be the month for you.

February and March see bigger crowds, but are more laid back. You might want to avoid both Presidents Week in February and Spring Break in March; if your family schedule will allow this you could have the best of all worlds: lots of snow on the ground, a good chance of sunshine and easier access to the best restaurants in town.

April appeals primarily to the British and Mexican markets, who come over for their Easter vacations. However, take care on your accommodation choice if you come in
April: there may be lots of snow at the top but a shortage at the bottom of the hill, so don’t bother to pay the premium for ski-in, ski-out accommodation.

As far as the non-skiing season is concerned you can write off the fall if you are interested in any form of watersports: the lakes are too cold. On the other hand the restaurants offer some great deals. A meal that would set you back $60-$70 in February can be had for $29. May and June can offer great weather; the conditions are ideal for white-water rafting in the snow melt and lovely cool, temperate days for golf. But if you want to swim in Lost Lake or sunbathe on your deck you should probably leave your trip until July or August.

Adventure Travel Trade Association: Canada’s Whistler Mountain Resort Selected for October 4-6, 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit

SEATTLE, WA —
Selected as a site for the 2010 Olympic Winter
Games and recognized as a world-class environment focused on outdoor
adventure, recreation and responsible tourism, Whistler today was chosen by
the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) as the site for the 2007
Adventure Travel World Summit.

Hosted by the ATTA, the 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit will be held at
the award-winning TELUS Whistler Conference Centre October 4-6.

In its third year, the Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) will continue
to deliver a premier international forum for executive-level industry
networking, multi-disciplinary sessions aimed at sustainable and
responsible growth, and solutions-oriented dialogue, debate, and
deliberation on critical topics.

In addition to Whistler ranking top in a delegate survey conducted by the
ATTA about future Summit locations, “Tourism Whistler, Whistler’s mayor and
the Canadian Tourism Commission have made the 2007 Adventure Travel World
Summit organizers feel welcome from the start,” said ATTA President Shannon
Stowell. “Commitment to partnership, a fantastic venue, and sharing a
common vision for the thoughtful development of adventure travel in this
region and beyond was crucial in our selecting this spectacular site.”

“Conversion” is the underpinning theme for the 2007 ATWS. Keynote
presentations and a mix of strategic and tactical interactive roundtables,
workshops and forums will help adventure travel organizations turn
operational, marketing, partnership and prospect opportunities into
results-oriented endeavors. Select areas of emphasis for the 2007 ATWS will
include:

– Marketing - trends, branding, marketing, advertising, public
    relations, etc.
– Sales - customer acquisition, turning ‘lookers’ into ‘bookers,’ etc.
– Customer Relationship Management - Client retention and loyalty
– Future vision - emergent, impacting trends, destinations, niches, etc.
– Internet - SEO, Web design, email marketing, blogs, etc.
– Business - operations, training, risk management, insurance, etc.

– Strategic Alliances & Collaboration - Networking sectors within the
adventure travel community (agents, operators, destinations, lodges,
    media/publishers, service providers, etc.)

Delegates include tour operators, destination marketing organizations,
tourism boards, lodges/resorts and transportation companies (air, auto,
etc.). Adventure travel agents, attractions, and travel-oriented gear
manufacturers also will participate along with media, travel, marketing and
technology service organizations, academic institutions, research
enterprises, tourism and recreational governmental agencies.

Summit attendance is limited to the first 600 participants on a first-come,
first-served basis. Online registration is accessible at
www.adventuretravelworldsummit.com. Registration fees include sessions,
meetings, conference materials, receptions, entertainment and meals. Summit
delegate passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with
special pricing available for early registration until April 15, 2007.
“Early-bird” registration is $675.00 (U.S.) for ATTA Members, $900.00 for
non-members.

In its sold-out (delegates and exhibitors) October 2006 ATWS in Seattle,
more than 400 executives from 26 countries convened, an increase of 32
percent delegates over the prior year. In the ATTA’s post-Summit (October
2006) delegate survey, 95 percent of respondents were “extremely satisfied”
or “satisfied” with the conference, confirming the solid return on
investment that attendees receive for their involvement.

“This year’s 2006 event went so far beyond expectations as to lift in a
category of its own,” said adventure travel industry pioneer, author and
co-founder of Mountain Travel Sobek Richard Bangs. “It was brilliantly
executed, as organized as a Swiss timepiece convention, with speakers who
fiercely challenged, informed and entertained, with participants whose
passion for adventure was only surpassed by a fervor to learn and share,
and featuring good coffee and fare, which may be the rarest of the
qualities cited.”

Returning sponsors supporting the 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit
include National Geographic Adventure Magazine, ExOfficio and Quotient
Marketing, and will be joined by a host of new sponsors including the
Canadian Tourism Commission, Norway and Brazil. Exhibition space at the
2007 Summit also is expected to sell out early. Exclusive Tents, MonkeyBean
Solutions Inc., Tourism Ireland and Macabi Skirt are the first exhibitors
registered, with dozens of reservations already logged. For information on
sponsorship and exhibition space, contact ATTA Director of Business
Development Chris Chesak at cchesak@adventuretravel.biz.

Pet Friendly in Whistler BC - Salivate Over These Tips for a Smooth Vacation

Whistler Ski Resort Holiday Vacation

Whistler/Blackcomb Holiday Ski Resort was not even in existence some 40 odd years ago. There was virtually nothing on this now world famous ski resort but blizzards caused by the moist Pacific air meeting the craggy mountain tops on what was then known as the London Mountain. Sometimes, one can see an occasional lonely skier using a rudimentary tow or hiking up the slopes of the mountain.

This resort was renamed Whistler Mountain in 1965, named after the hoary marmot or the whistle pig. Today, this holiday vacation resort is one of the most popular and celebrated holiday ski resorts in the world.

Whistler Ski Village
The Whistler Village is an attractive, all purpose built-in resort and is known for its fascinating skiing vacations. This Ski Resort is also known as Whistler Blackcomb because of the two mountain peaks stood side by side and has the highest vertical drop in the country, both a mile high. A breathtaking and heart stopping drop indeed.

Although always complimented upon, Whistler Resort has its cons too. One of which is its low elevation. At only 2214 ft, the resort comes under the influence of the Pacific seaboard and tends to attract more rain than other resorts. Although this also attracts more snow on the mountain’s higher slopes, the prospect of going skiing in the wet is a dampener to the skiing vacation holiday mood.

For years, Whistler and Blackcomb were two entities and were fierce competitors until Intrawest, a major player in the ski resort industry and owner of Blackcomb bought over Whistler in 1997.

The two mountains are actually quite similar with each having more than a ski hundred trails many of which are long cruising runs through stunning pine forests. However, Whistler has more bowls such as The West Bowl, Symphony and Harmony while Blackcomb has glaciers like the Horstman. Blackcomb also have more couloirs such as the Couloir Extreme and Pakalolo.

Toward the bottom of the Extreme are two quad chairs, the Glacier Express and the Jersey Cream Express lies a magnificent collection of chutes and gullies which spreads across the mountain.

The Whistler Ski Holiday Resort also have an area for novice heliskiers. Intrepid heli-skiers can try it for a day before venturing into one of the remote heliskiing lodges for a whole week of heliskiing with Bell 210 or AStar helicopters. Then again, with such fantastic vertical drop in Whistler Ski Resort, who needs helicopters right?
